Anne Marie Mays Thatcher, 72, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 18, 2007 at Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center in Idaho Falls following a lingering illness. She was born July 26, 1935 in Idaho Falls to Emlen G. and Anna Marie Hoopes Mays. She spent her early years in Howe, Idaho. She rode her horse “Pudgie” to the school in Howe through the 6th grade. She continued on to Jr. and Sr. High School in Arco and graduated from Butte County High. She was a hard-working, farm-raised girl during the war years. She continued her education at the University of Idaho in Moscow for one year, and became engaged to love of her life in 1952. Anne married Richard Eugene “Dick” Thatcher on July 26, 1953 at the Arco Baptist Church. They lived in Arco for 2 years, then lived in Idaho Falls from 1955-60, Fresno, California from 1960-65 and then returned to Idaho Falls, where they have lived since. She was a proficient office worker, helping Dick run his propane consulting business for many years. She was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority, I.A.A.S. Temple #40, Upper Snake River Valley Quarter Horse Club, and the Arabian Horse Club. She was a member of the Organist Guild, attended the Baptist Church in Arco, the Congregational Church in Idaho Falls and was a member of Unitarian Universalist Church in Fresno and Idaho Falls. Anne was an accomplished seamstress, winning national awards in the “Make It With Wool Contest”. She was also talented in piano and organ, playing for the Baptist Church in Arco and Idaho Falls and later for the Congregational Church in Idaho Falls. She was very involved with animals, from a pet pig to several horses, dogs, cats and other critters. She rode in many horse events, trained several horses and was a 4-H member and leader She helped birth calves and lambs and would shoe the family horses, even being only slightly over 100 pounds and 5 feet tall. Anne was a feisty, freckled faced redhead. She was an excellent cook and hostess. Anne loved her family dearly. She is survived by her husband: Richard “Dick” Thatcher of Idaho Falls; her children: son Tracy Thatcher of Centralia, Washington, a son Larry (Sheila) Thatcher of Idaho Falls, a daughter Tami Thatcher of Idaho Falls; grandchildren: Lydia Thatcher of Pocatello, Idaho, Lacy and Sonny Thatcher both of Grand Mound, Washington; a brother James G. (Donna) Mays of Howe, Idaho and cousins: Jack Green of Mackay, Idaho and Ada Ruth (Don) Waddoups of Idaho Falls Her parents preceded her in death. Memorial services will be Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls with Reverend Lyn Cameron of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Idaho Falls officiating. Friends may visit with the family following the services. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Shriners Hospitals for Children, Fairfax Road at Virginia St., Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
