JAMES E. PITTS JR., 61, of Vineland, died Wednesday in Veterans Hospital, Philadelphia.
A Vineland resident for 38 years, Mr. Pitts formerly lived in Audubon and was born in Philadelphia.
Before retiring, Mr. Pitts was a patrolman with the Vineland Police Department from 1958 to 1967. He formerly had been a plumber for the Lowenstern Co.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Pitts served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Retiring from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1987 after 38 years of service, he won numerous awards, including the Navy Achievement Medal, presented to him in 1987.
An avid hunter and marksman, Mr. Pitts collected antique guns and automobiles. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Garden State 50s Auto Club and the Police Officers Association of the State of New Jersey.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice; and a son, James E. III of Vineland.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pancoast Funeral Home, Vineland, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Newfield.
