Requiescat In Pace

An American Military Hero

Knodell, Robert late of New Hope, MN. Born Winner, SD 2/20/1922; Died Brooklyn Center, MN, 11/15/2014. Son of Roscoe Knodell and Clara Brown Knodell. Brother of Dorothy McCarl (dec'd), Margaret Steele (dec'd), William Knodell (Winner, SD) and Alice Craven (McMinnville, OR). Husband of Eloise Talley Knodell from 6/9/1944 until her death 2/9/2005. Father to Robert G. Knodell, M.D. (Joyce), Baltimore, MD; David R. Knodell (Mary Ewert-Knodell), Corcoran, MN and Stephen H. Knodell (Jodi), Red Lion, PA. Also survived by grandchildren Rachael Bennett (Guy), London, England; Justin Robert Knodell (Anne), Baltimore, MD; Katherine Talley King, Greenville, SC; Chaise Ewert-Meyer (Joseph), Brighton, MI; Alex Robert Knodell, Northfield, MN; Claire Jansson-Knodell (Fredrik), Minneapolis, MN; Kyle Knodell, New York, NY; Zachary Knodell, Stanhope, IA; great grandchildren Finn, Electra and Jagger Bennett; Veradis Knodell; Emerson King; and Reece and Lily Meyer; many loving nieces and nephews; and special friends Margaret and James Ridley, Olive Branch, MS and Ann and Darrell Hicks, Jackson, TN, who so enriched Robert and Eloise's thirty-two years in Tennessee. Robert served in the US Army Air Corp 1942-1945. He enjoyed a wonderful career with John Deere in ND, MN, IA, IL and TN. He had a lifelong passion for horses and hunting; but his greatest joy was being with and helping the family and friends for whom he cared so much. Robert's family is especially grateful to the Assisted Living staff at Northridge in New Hope who enabled him to live with dignity in his own apartment from April 2013 until October 2014 and that staff at North Memorial Residential Hospice who cared for him so kindly and respectfully when he could no longer care for himself. A fitting memorial for Robert is a smile when you think of him or a little extra in a Salvation Army Red Kettle this coming holiday season. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be planned at a later date. National Cremation 612-869-3418 Published on November 18, 2014
