Published in The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Thursday, May 5, 2016, Page 9A. Roland Gene Wiles, 87, passed away on May 2, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Gene was born on September 14, 1928, in Akron, Ohio to Orville George and Wilma (Seifert) Wiles. He proudly served his country, for 20 years, 8 months, and 13 days in the U.S. Air Force; including a year in Vietnam during the war, retiring on March 1, 1972. Gene enjoyed listening to traditional jazz music and was an avid hunter and fisherman, which led to him teaching hunter education classes for the NRA for many years. He received a lifetime achievement award for this volunteer work. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita; siblings, Margaret Wiles, Helen Nation, Sue Bollinger, Robert Wiles and Carroll Wiles. Survivors include his children, Debra Handford and husband, Ernest, Karen Walker and husband, Russell, Brian Wiles and wife, Rhonda; step-children, Vilynsia Montgomery, and husband, Dale, Tina Hamilton; grandchildren, Ryan Walker and wife, Cindy, Richard Hawkins and wife, Sarah, Scott Walker, Dylan Walker and wife, Laura, Derek Walker and wife, Astghik, Alexa Wiles; step-grandchildren, Pepsi Caligone, Kasi Aska; great-grandchildren, Angela Walker, Ryder and Reid Hawkins; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Tullis. A funeral service, with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel.
