Alexander "Al" Stanko AGE: 81 • Somerset Mr. Al Stanko passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, after a long illness at his home in Somerset. He was 81 years old. Born in New Brunswick to John and Elizabeth Stanko, Mr. Stanko lived in the Middlebush section of Franklin, Laurel Springs, NJ, and Ft. Plain, NY before returning to Somerset in 1990. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and for six years afterward in the reserves. Mr. Stanko had a long and varied career in a Human Resources capacity. He was a parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Somerset, and a lifetime honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Council #9925. Al enjoyed golf, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens. Mr. Stanko was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Ann Stanko and Elizabeth Megyesi. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Leppert) Stanko; their children, Janet A. Deibler of Pine Hill, NJ, Joy A Keil and her husband Randy of Maple Shade, NJ, and Brian A. Stanko of New Freedom, PA; by his brother, John Stanko, and by his grandsons, Alexander Keil and Stephen Stanko. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 7-9 pm only, and on Saturday morning from 10-11 am at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, NJ 08873. The funeral mass will begin at 11:30am Saturday at St. Matthias Church, 168 JFK Blvd., Somerset. Interment will be private.
