Gordon W. Hipko September 7, 1934 - August 2, 2016 PLATTSBURGH---Gordon W. Hipko, 81, longtime resident of Cumberland Head Road, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, VT. He was born in New Brunswick, NJ on September 7, 1934, the son of Willi and Edna (Madsen) Hipko. Gordon attended Rutgers University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Geology. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1957-1961 and served in Korea as an Intelligence Officer. Gordon first moved to Plattsburgh in 1961 and later returned to New Jersey to care for his parents. He also began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in New Jersey. Years later, he moved to Island Pond, VT and later retired as Postmaster in Guildhall, VT after 28 years. Gordon also received his Master's Degree from Plattsburgh State University. Gordon was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed trains, and was also know for his photography, including photographing weddings on the weekends. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Masons, and The Shriners in Plattsburgh and Montreal. Most recently Gordon was honored and proud to have been able to be on the Honor Flight here from Plattsburgh. Survivors include his loving wife of 19 years whom he married in Montreal, Lan Xiang Hipko of Plattsburgh; four children, Scott (Bonnie) Hipko of St. Albans Bay, VT, Susan Everett of North Brunswick, NJ, Erik (Teri) Hipko of St. Simons Island, GA, and Ray Wan Li of Dublin, Ireland; and 8 grandchildren, Nicholas Hipko, Peter Hipko, Ethan Hipko, Lauren Everett, Alessandra Abad, Adam Hipko, Maxx Hipko, and Claire Hipko. Gordon was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Sandra Hipko. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will follow at 5:30 in the funeral home chapel.
