Jacob Henry "Jake" Lachenmayer Jr.
COAL TOWNSHIP — Jacob Henry "Jake" Lachenmayer Jr., 76, of 1031 W. Arch St., Coal Township, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Memorial Day morning, Monday, May 30, 2011, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he was a resident since April 2011.
Born on Nov. 8, 1934, in Highland Park, N.J., he was a son of the late Jacob H. Sr. and Marie C. (Atger) Lachenmayer. He and his wife moved from Milltown, N.J. to their Coal Township home in September 1997.
He was a 22-year career Army serviceperson, serving in both the regular Army and the Army Reserves. While serving our country, he was assigned with HQ and HQ Company, 3rd Armed Rifle Battalion, 50th Infantry, APO 26. He was discharged after an early separation of overseas returnees; terminating his service March 31, 1963.
On Oct. 14, 1967, at the United Methodist Church of Milltown, N.J., he married the love of his life, the former Carol Ann Mowery, who survives. His death ended a marital union of over 43 years.
He worked as a mechanic for Bristol-Meyers-Squib, a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, located in New Jersey. While living in Coal Township, he worked eight years for Jones Hardware, Shamokin, and four years for Knoebels Amusement Resort, Elysburg.
He was a devoted member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Shamokin, where he was a deacon and served on the consistory. He was an active member of Rotary International, Shamokin, where he served two terms as president, a member of the American Legion Post 92, Trevorton, and the American Society for Military Insignia Collectors. He served with the Milltown, N.J. Fire Company for 27 years, two years as assistant fire chief and as a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association, for both Milltown and the State of New Jersey.
In addition to his loving wife, Carol, he is survived by one daughter, Dawn M. Davis, of Coal Township; one grandson, Nicholas J. Davis, of Coal Township; one brother and sister-in-law, Theodore C. "Ted" and Cathy Lachenmayer, of South River, N.J., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Atger and two sisters, Delphine Pennisi and Marie Renoux.

LACHENMAYER — Jacob Henry "Jake" Lachenmayer, Jr., 76, of 1031 W. Arch St., Coal Township. A Religious Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, in St. John's United Church of Christ, Lark Chapel, 117 North Eighth Street (Grant Street entrance), Shamokin, with Deacon Harry Dietz presiding. Interment will follow the services in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Trevorton Road, Coal Township. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 West Arch Street at Maple Street, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 117 N. Eighth St., Shamokin, PA 17872.
