Within the above transcript we find the following for John, "DARRAH, JOHN, 30, Private, Co. H, 1st. Reg.; enrolled Dec. 2, 1846 at Phila. by Capt. Scott; mustered in Dec. 16, 1846 at Pittsburg by Capt. R. K. Scott; died Sept. 27, 1847 of diarrhea contracted in service."

It is interesting to point out that the last tax entry for John F. Darrah in Bucks County, Pennsylvania was for the year 1843. That leaves a gap of approximately two years until he 'enrolled' in the Army on December 2, 1846.
