Home News Tribune – May 21, 1986 Joseph Kupsch of Sayreville, was school board, fire official SAYREVILLE – Joseph A. Kupsch of Patton Drive, a Former member of the Board of Education, died yesterday at home. He was 79. He was a lifelong borough resident. Before his retirement in 1971, he had been employed by Jersey Central Power & Light Co., Sayreville, as a mechanic for 43 years. He was a member of the JCP&L Twenty-Five Year Club. He had been formerly employed by Hercules Inc. and the Sayre & Fisher Brick Co., Sayreville. Mr. Kupsch served on the school board from 1965 to 1974. He was vice president in 1967 and 1968 and president in 1969. Mr. Kupsch served as a volunteer fireman with Engine Company No. 1 for 50 years. He was a member of the Sayreville Exempt Firemen's Association and the Sayreville Firemen's Relief Association. He served as foreman, first assistant foreman, second assistant foreman, president, vice president and recording secretary of the engine company. He was a member of the Sayreville Senior Citizens Wednesday Club, serving as recording secretary from 1970 to 1974, and as president of the club for 1975-1976. He also served as special project director for the Sayreville Senior Citizens. He was a communicant of our lady of Victories R.C. Church, Sayreville. His wife, Evelyn Bailey Kupsch, died in 1985. He was also predeceased by a son, Wayne, who died in 1965. Surviving are four sons, Joseph Jr., lee G., Barry W. and Glenn A., all of Sayreville; 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121-123 Main St. Sayreville, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Victories Church. Burial will follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
