JOHN J. WOJCIK
AGE: 79 SAYREVILLE
John "Popeye" Wojcik, 79, of Sayreville passed away peacefully on Thursday Feb. 26, 2009 at J.F.K. Haven Hospice in Edison with his loving family at his side. Born in Sayreville he was a life long borough resident. Before his retirement in 1985 he was employed by E. I. Du Pont Photo Products division in Parlin where he worked for 30 years retiring as foreman In the Emulsion Area. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a communicant of Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church in Sayreville, where he served as an usher at 9:00 Mass for 54 years.
John was an avid sports fan and athlete. He loved the Yankees. In his youth, he played basketball, football and baseball, becoming a part of the St. Louis Cardinals' minor league team, the Geneva Red Birds. He loved bowling, darts and pool, and spent many happy hours playing golf. John shared his athletic abilities with the youth of Sayreville coaching OLV basketball and Little League baseball. He also served on the Sayreville Recreation Committee.
John had a smile and a kind word for everyone. His compassion and friendliness had a lasting impression on all who met him. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who supported his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. He was very proud of his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is predeceased by his parents, George and Caroline Wojcik; his brothers, Joseph, Frank, Stanley and Milton and his sister, Antoinette Wojtaszek. Surviving are his wife of 55 years the former, Jean Kupsch; his children, JoAnn Walter and her husband Joseph of Parlin, John Wojcik and his wife, Joyce of Sayreville and James Wojcik and his wife Donna of Sayreville; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jodi, John, Justin, Timmy, Jamie, Danny and Joseph; his great granddaughter, Madison and his brother, Walter Wojcik of Sayreville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 9 a.m. from the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street Sayreville followed by a 9:30 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville with burial to follow at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
